Domain Name Registration Guidelines

If you want to register a domain name that is not a .com, .net, or .org domain, or you simply want to register your domain name yourself (instead of having us do it for you), follow the directions below.

  1. Is Your Domain Name Already Taken?
If the domain you wish to register has already been registered by someone else, than you must choose a different domain name. If you have already registered it for use with another hosting provider, and you now want to use it with your Virtual Server, see our Domain Name Transfer Guidelines.

  2. Order the New Domain
Before your new domain name will resolve on the Internet, you must have us add it to our nameservers.

  3. Choose a Registrar
There are many Accredited Registrars that can register a new domain name for you.

  4. Complete the Registration
Domain name registration will likely require some information contained in the Virtual Server Configuration E-Mail you received when your Virtual Server was originally configured. For example, if you would like to use our nameservers to resolve your domain name, you will need the following information about our nameservers.

    Nameserver 1 hostname: NS1.SECURE.NET
    Nameserver 1 IP address: 192.41.1.10
    Nameserver 2 hostname: NS2.SECURE.NET
    Nameserver 2 IP address: 161.58.9.10

  5. Wait
It will take some time (perhaps one day or so) for your new domain name to begin resolving on the Internet.
